My Visit to Oxford University and Participation in the Global Cybersecurity GCSCC Conference

In this small peace of works, i am excited to share my incredible experience visiting Oxford, United Kingdom, and attending the Global Cybersecurity Capacity Centre (GCSCC) 10th anniversary Conference from 29th of April to 1st of May 2024 held at the renowned  Martin School, Oxford University.

The Journey and Welcome

From Mogadishu to London, to Oxford city, the moment I arrived in Oxford, the warm hospitality and the historic ambiance of the city left a lasting impression on me. This city, known for its iconic academic institutions, exudes an aura of knowledge and intellectual curiosity. Oxford University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world, welcomed me with open arms, excellent summer weather that made my stay and participation seamless and enjoyable.

About Oxford University

Oxford University, with its rich history dating back to the 12th century, is a beacon of academic excellence and innovation. The university comprises 39 constituent colleges and six permanent private halls, each with its own unique character and traditions. These colleges provide not only education but also a sense of community and belonging, fostering an environment where students and faculty can thrive intellectually and socially.

As I am walking through the colleges a friend told me that each college is a self-governing institution within the university, responsible for admitting students, and offering tutorials. The colleges are spread across the city, contributing to Oxford's vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. Walking through the historic quads and courtyards, one can't help but feel a sense of awe at the legacy of scholars and thinkers who have passed through these halls.

The GCSCC Conference

Organized by the Global Cybersecurity Capacity Centre, the conference brought together experts, researchers, and policymakers from around the world to discuss pressing issues related to the digital infrastructure, cybersecurity and strategies for enhancing national cybersecurity capacities. It was a unique opportunity to learn about new perspectives and innovative ideas addressing the challenges and opportunities in the realm of cybersecurity.

Throughout the conference, various compelling research findings were presented, analyzing the successes and obstacles faced by different countries. I benefited greatly from the discussions and workshops that focused on practical solutions for improving digital and cybersecurity capabilities in our respective nations.

Key Meetings and Interactions

During the conference, I had the privilege of meeting and engaging with experts and researchers from diverse backgrounds. These interactions were incredibly productive, allowing me to exchange ideas and discuss new approaches to tackling cyber threats. The meetings provided valuable insights into effective strategies for strengthening our country's   digital and cybersecurity frameworks.

Conclusion

My visit to Oxford University and participation in the GCSCC conference was an invaluable experience. I gained profound knowledge and a deeper understanding of cybersecurity and how we can work towards enhancing our national capacities in this critical area. I look forward to continuing the collaboration and partnerships established during the conference.
